I’m trying out a new look on my pics this week, this is the “shitty smartphone” filter.

First up the good stuff, a pair of rare AMGs, an SLK32 and a gray market G36.

Kinja'd!!!

Now the not so good stuff, a horrible prior repair to a door on this Z3. No shit the window binds, huh? These doors are a known weakness, and often break around the window motor. But this... this is not how to fix them.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Bro... BRO... BREAUX!!! Bro. I think your suspension is broken, bro.

Wow, that’s quite the window repair. I guess there’s something to be said for using shit around the shop.

And that wheel setup is awful. I just don't think I'll ever understand stretched tires. Seems like a complete waste.

We’ve got a small (but rapidly growing) “Wall of Shame” at our shop for things we’ve found after disassembly (hideous welds, expanding foam used to fill rust holes and painted over, etc). That poor door reinforcement job is a great candidate to start your own, if you don’t already have one. :)

Edit: Is that duct tape residue at the front of the door shell? Did they just duct tape the damn trim panel back on the door?

More than a waste, I don’t even know how they’re holding air.

Yes, they did. This thing was beyond hacked. That, and the car was driven for a couple of years with no back window, so it soaked the yaw sensor under the carpets, and the water that’s been in the car is wrecking electronics faster than we can fix them. The thing is awful.

Well yeah, that too. It doesn't even look like the thing is sealed on the wheel. Maybe they used a metric ton of tire slime?

Has the door repair failed?

Wheels and tires bought on credit most likely, and worn out long before they’re paid for.

That wheel setup. Does it have adjustable air suspension? So it can, you know, move? Please, please say yes. Never mind the tire/wheel combo. Just the fitment to the car itself is enough to make my brain hurt.

Classic. Tape the trim panel back on (at least they didn’t use self tapping screws, possibly allowing correct fasteners to be used in the future), but leave the giant, gaping hole in the back of the car, turning it into a Z3 Aquarium edition.

Yes, it’s on air. It got towed in at max height yesterday, which looks equally wrong.

It never worked in the first place, by the look of it. The door flexes hilariously around it.

There are plenty of things I don’t like, but at least I understand why people like them. The stretched tire thing ... I just don’t get it ... it just looks like you ordered the wrong size tires, and said, “F*** it!”

Exactly. I like a lot of “stanced” cars, because people are just calling lowered cars “stanced” now. I have nothing against air suspension, I think it’s neat. Few things look better to me than slammed old American cars. But to willfully damage the sides and chassis of your car and stretch tires dangerously just to achieve a look is beyond me.

I want a G class now. Also if you hear the smoking tire podcast the recurring joke about these owner is “Mercedes is best bro. Bro is best” (with middle eastern accent).

We have a shop joke, based on this hilarious Syrian guy named Sal that runs the liquor store around the corner, who is always talking about different Mercedes he wants. Something like this:

“Mercedes-Benz, buddy, A-number 1 best car, buddy. Not for me, for cousin, overseas. Good mechanic.”

no stretch on these tires,

and i dont drive like this, that would just be stupid. All that being said, its nice when its parked and the adjustability is nice too, i got it really dialed in to feel a lot more firm than stock, but still comfortable enough for a luxury car.

See, that I really like! I have no problem with cars laid out on bags, I spend a lot of time on Speedhunters. In fact Accu-Air is local to me and we’re good buddies with them shop to shop, and their systems are great. I just sold a ‘66 Fairlane that I wanted to bag, but I’ll do something else eventually. The thing is, there’s a right and wrong way to do it. It’s the crazy-ass camber and stretch that bugs me, because it’s so bad mechanically, and renders the car all but uncontrollable.

Im running Accuair myself. im still surprised how far people will go to make their cars look good, and how much drivability they are willing to sacrifice... Makes me queasy
